Showing in 2009
September 14, 2009
2009 has not been a showing year for Spunkypaws. I have felt kind of lost since Daisy Duke finished. HotRod & Pico, as beautiful as they are, just do not like the noise & chaos of a dog show!! I had hoped someone would throw me a sweet little female puppy to show but it just hasn't been in the cards. Now, Daisy Duke did throw me a GORGEOUS little boy to show. Not that I need another male, but we are going to see how he does in the show ring. He just turned 6 months old yesterday so we will be hitting some shows this fall. I have named him "Spunky Hot Lil Mazzirati" and call him "Mazzi" for short. I will get some pics of him posted soon.
To keep me busy this past spring & summer we took a shot at showing one of the Corgis. Gunner did an absolutely great job in the ring, however there are so many corgis that it would take forever to finish him. It was fun for a bit, but Chihuahuas are my passion and I wasn't enjoying it the same with Gunner. Here is a pic of him from the show ring that my husband took:

This was a long weekend. No more driving this far four days in a row...chihuahuas are always first thing in the morning which makes for very early days. HotRod is having difficulty letting a complete stranger come at him to examine him without so much as a hello so I am benching him for a bit...we'll wait to show again until I am sure he won't try to bite the judge! He doesn't actually try to bite...he growls and grabs air with his mouth. If it didn't make a person's reflex automatically snatch their hand back they would see that he only grabs with his lips and not his teeth. But he is rewarded each time by the person not wanting to try again so it's going to take a bit to train this behavior out of him. Daisy was her sweet, confident self. She received one more point. She has a total of 5 points and 1 major. My husband took some GREAT pics that I will load very soon.

We have a blog!
September 8, 2007
We have a new blog! I'm going to try this out and see if I like it or not...I will post upcoming shows we will be attending and the results.
Crash course on showing:
Conformation shows are to evaluate breeding stock and how close the dogs are to AKC's standard for the breed being shown. The goal is to earn enough points to add the "Champion" title in their name. To champion, a dog must aquire 15 total points with 2 majors. A major means that at least 3 points were awarded at one show. The number of points awarded are based on the number of entries at each show. They can earn a max of 5 points at one show. Only 1 male and 1 female of each breed earn points at each show...the Winner's Dog and Winner's Bitch.
WHEW!! Confused? Try figuring out all the point possibilities....we won't even go there!!
Here we are at the show in Eugene, OR. Pebbles came along for support and HotRod came to observe Daisy Duke in the ring and get some pointers.
Today Daisy Duke took 1st place in the Bred-By-Exhibitor's class.
