CH Mazzi is trash talking with his uncle Pico!
Chihuahuas are the sweetest little dogs. Once you own a “chi”, you’re hooked for life! Be careful because they are kinda like potato chips….you can’t have just one!! I am a small, hobby breeder and occasionally have puppies available. My main interest is breeding for possible show prospects for me. From putting together the best possible match for puppies that will be healthy and adhere to the breed standard, to welcoming those little ones into the world, handling them from day one & watching them grow, training for the show ring, and showing them to a Championship title. I love doing it all myself! All of my dogs are AKC registered and all breeding dogs have their health screenings for Eyes, Hearts, & Patellas and are CHIC certified with OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals). I have long and smooth coat chihuahuas. These are two different coat lengths (varieties) of the same breed. These are the only varieties that are recognized in our breed standard with AKC and the Chihuahua Club of America. Apple head and deer head are not varieties or breeds. It simply describes the shape of their head (like saying this dog has long legs or short legs, or this dog is white and this one is black). The standard says they should have a “well rounded apple dome skull, with or without molera.” Molera is the open fontanelle (soft spot) that human babies get. Most chihuahuas have molera and it is completely normal. The size of the molera can vary and the larger it is, the more fragile that puppy will be. There is no such thing as a Teacup Chihuahua! Teacup chihuahua is not a variety or its own breed. The chihuahua breed standard says they should be “no more than 6 lbs.” Period. There is no classifying them smaller or larger separately like you see in some other breeds. I breed for the 4-6 lb range. That is the goal. Sometimes I get some a little smaller, sometimes larger, with most falling in the desired range. Because the term “teacup” does not apply to chihuahuas, when someone uses this description it is confusing and subjective and does not give a clear picture of exactly what size is meant. Some will say it’s 2 lbs and under. Some say it’s under 4 lbs. A person who has only owned large dogs may think 6lbs is a teacup. Some people are convinced they (or someone they know) had a teacup at one time or another because that is what they were told. They were misinformed. Chihuahuas are just small dogs in the “Toy” category. If you would like information on puppies or to be added to my waiting list please submit a puppy application. I also re-home my retired breeders from time to time so let me know what you are looking for and as many details about your situation and lifestyle as possible and I will see if I have someone that might just be a perfect fit.
